I'm a beginning welder using a very inexpensive (Century) flux core welder. My very first weld, repairing a mower deck welding an outside corner joint on 16 ga. steel, turned out excellent, far better than I expected with my limited skills. My weld looked better and had better penetration that one on the opposite side of the deck done some years ago by a pro. I was actually shocked at how easy it was, and proper wire contributes to that. Yes, I spent a little extra, but I feel like I got what I paid for - quality wire.

if you're new to welding, like me, skip the cheaper wire and just start with this. I wish i would have. Better penetration than the forney i was using (had to turn welder down) and way easier to get good welds. I thought the forney was pretty good with not much to compare to, but this is way better to me so far (just got it today). Also the ability to do multiple passes without the wire fighting you, or giving you an inferior weld seems kind of important to me. Deducted one star due to having to buy 1lb spools instead of 2lb. 5lb might be a sweet spot. 10lb is $$$ and might rust.
