Shure A2WS Locking Microphone Windscreen - Reduces Unwanted Breath and Wind Noise, Black - Compatible with SM57 and 545 Series Mics (A2WS-BLK)

I have a couple of Shure SM58 mics and several Shure SM57 mics. The major difference between the two is the metal ball windscreen that is on the SM58. I'm not a fan of it. Unfortunately, the SM58 proves to be more useful for most vocalists. The SM57 is more sensitive to breath noises. Fortunately, these foam covers tend to make the SM57 perform more like the SM58. They also let me very closely mic guitar amplifiers. With a SM58 there is the possibility that if the mic gets too close to the speaker, you get some induced noise from movement of the metal ball against the speaker cloth. With these, you can close mic and not worry about it with an SM57.Further, some vocalists actually prefer cuddling up closely with the foam cover more than the metal cover.It's largely a matter of personal preference, but I even like the looks of the SM57 with this windscreen more so than the SM58.

Why did you pick this product vs others?:I could have gone with the "standard" pop filter but the quality and security of she shure sm57 filter is top notch. Looks great on the microphone as well.

The product works as expected. In my opinion, the gray color helps hide the small particles of dust, lint, or dirt inherent in the environment that tend to settle on this type of windscreen, and is usually more noticeable on black filters. The price could be a little lower, but since it's an original Shure product, it's understandable that it's a bit more expensive than average.The filter attaches to the microphone with a small flat screw, which ensures a secure fit and the filter won't move at all. You don't have to worry, as the inner end of the screw doesn't make contact with the microphone itself, but rather with a wide internal plastic washer, which has a vertical cutout for easy adjustment.The filter, installed properly, prevents and/or reduces plosives without affecting the sound quality of the microphone.It was also easy to install. When installing the filter on your Shure SM-57 (or similar model), remember not to insert the filter all the way to the bottom, but rather leave it a few centimeters away (allow a gap of about 0.5 to 1 inch between the top of the microphone capsule and the inner part of the filter). Note that if you press the filter from the top, there should be some room until your finger or hand touches the top of the microphone capsule. I'll upload an image to illustrate how I installed the filter on my microphone.

Works great

Gets rid of all plosives, and helps eliminate background noise. Has an adjustable plastic cap with the base. Be sure not to lose it, as it's part of the pop filter. At $15 this is a bargain, you won't go wrong with Shure here.

Great pop filter, sounds great and protects against plosives. Great price too.
