The build quality of this tool is far better than the Aluminum versions of this type of tool, accurate and easy to use.

Pros:- great price, especially with what you get- Solid metal construction that will hold up over time- etched markings won't wear away- center section is heavy brass for stability when marking- center section is in line with inside and outside dovetail edges to help mark the other face.Cons:- The steel portion is not smoothed, a small diameter mechanical pencil tends to catch, bounce, or break lead. This has little effect on my marking knife.- The chamfers on the brass are rather large, so it's harder to find the actual edge to mark the 90 degree cut with a mechanical pencil. It's not a problem with marking knife, which can lay against the side.Overall, this was exactly what I wanted in a dovetail layout tool and should last much longer than the plastic one I used in the past. The only thing that kept me from giving 5 stars was the metal finish that made it difficult to use a fine mechanical pencil, but I can adapt to it or smooth the rough edges a bit. Aside from that, I'm very pleased with this purchase and would strongly recommend it, especially if you use a marking knife instead of a mechanical pencil.

It's bigger than I expected, which is very nice. Has really weight to it, and it's very accurate. I have to say, I'm very pleased with this purchase!

The marker is made of two parts, screwed together. Mine arrived out of true ( dovetails angled to one side) but could be adjusted to an appropriate position. Having four options for dovetail angles is nice, but really only the two inside angles are easy to mark both the face and end grain. The part that you use to mark the end grain for the outside angles is chamfered, making it hard to get your pencil or knife line aligned between face and end grain. Overall not a bad gauge but leaves me wanting a better one.

This is a very simple , but well made dovetail reference. It saves time and is virtually indestructible with even an ounce of care. I will be using mine most likely for the rest of my life.

This marking gauge is nicely made. Since I have purchased it I usually only use it to mark pins first then I mark out the tails using the cut-out pins. So I dont fully utilize this tool. Plus if I dont perfectly cut the pins I mark the tails from what I have cut (wrong or right) and they match up. It is a nice tool.

I was excited for this item because it looked well-designed for transferring lines from the end grain to face grain. However, it had two defects so I am returning it.1) The steel and brass pieces don't sit square on the wood. Actually it looks like the brass piece has been machined with a belly.2) The brass piece has chamfered edges, so it doesn't work well for transferring a knife line. Essentially the edge of the brass and the edge of the steel aren't collinear where they meet the wood.

It’s just what it looks like. Has good weight and sits on your end piece nicely. I’ve only had it a week and used it a few times but I like it so far.
