Powerpuff
This is a well written and fun book which combines two of my six year old daughters favourite things - ice cream and powderpuff girls. My daughter really enjoyed it. It is a 'proper' book with lots of writing - so it is perfect for young independent readers.Would recommend.

You can't stop the sugar rush
This was my daughter’s first experience of the Powerpuff Girls and she doesn’t even know yet that it’s also a TV show (we tend to say in the walled garden of BBC iPlayer), so we read it are a completely standalone story with unfamiliar characters. From that naive point of view, there were a few logic jumps that we had to make- the most fundamental of which was “oh and the Powerpuff Girls can fly and have magic powers, but we don’t actually know why”. But once we’d got around those, we then really enjoyed it.On one level, the superhero sisters obsessed with TV and winning an ice cream flavour design contest could turn you diabetic from just reading it- it’s unadulterated ice cream making, chucking, and eating in vast quantities. Underneath it is a very simple moral about working better as a team than separately, expressed somewhat ham-fistedly but still positive nevertheless. The bad guys are a pleasant change too. Evil monkey Mojo Jojo seems more interested in dressing up in uniforms than conquering anything (oh and by the way he can fly passenger planes) and the monsters that he rounds up to conquer Townsville are more interested in checking out the opera and the museums. Especially with no knowledge of how the characters are supposed to sound, it’s great fun to read out loud with different silly voices. It is a touch on the violent side, by my normally very pacifist standards, but at least it’s unusual and somehow unreal stuff like getting trapped in the arms of a tree monster, rather than too much punch-and-kick. You can’t avoid it completely as a parent, but give me a story where the hero talks rather than fights to victory any day (for kids’ stories at any rate- if I said I thought that about grown-up TV I’d be a hypocrite..)There’s a collection of extra bits at the end of the book- a preview chapter of a different story, plus some wordsearches and “which Powerpuff Girl are you?” multiple choice things. Personally I find them a bit irritating- when doing stories at bedtime, they’re something that wake your child up instead of resting them, and with the preview chapter it’s just a cheap trick to make sure that you’re going to buy the next one in the series. If I could give it 4-and-a-half stars, I would. Perhaps I’m being a bit harsh marking it down mostly because of the extras, as the story itself is good fun and surprisingly quirky.

Kids enjoyed
A fun and easy to read book for fans of the power puff girls. It's a playful story about an ice cream flavour inventing competition and it appealed to my kids as they watch this show on Cartoon Network. It's set out in chapter format with a few illustrations, and should suit kids around 6-7+ depending on reading abilities. My kids would happily read more in the series!

The Powerpuff Girls: Brain Freeze, Book 1
At just over one hundred pages, with eight chapters and with lots of black and white illustrations, this is an ideal read for children moving on from first chapter books and is, of course, sure to appeal to any fans of the Powerpuff Girls.Despite having superhuman abilities, the Powerpuff Girls are not immune to the power of advertising and so, when an advert for ice cream is shown during their favourite tv programme, the girls head off to the Lickety Splits Ice Cream Parlour. The Ice Cream Parlour is running a competition - create a winning flavour and you can get free ice cream for a year so, of course, the girls have to give it a try. However, their ice cream inventing is interrupted by 'Trouble in Townsville,' with that baddie Mojo Jojo, who is up to his old tricks again. Can the Powerpuff Girls save the day and win the competition? This story finishes with a sneak peak of the next book, plus some fun extras - such as a quiz and wordsearch. Very enjoyable and there is lots of information from the 'narrator' along the way, so the story makes sense even if you haven't seen the show.

The Powerpuff Girls are a favourite in this household and this book has proved to be a firm favourite especially at bed time. In this book, the Powerpuff Girls are entering the world of advertising and it is one food which is very much a favourite for our little girl and that is ice cream. This is a great little book which has the added bonus of fun activities, which makes it very easy for me to recommend.
