Fenchilin Compact UV Camera Mirror for Sunscreen Test, Portable Travel Mirror with 2X Magnification for Sun Protection

I've had skin cancer on my face so am very careful about slapping on sun/UV protection before heading outdoors - and this is year-round when the UV level is high, not just in summer or sunny countries, but here in the UK.I had already seen dermatology UV cameras previously but never realised they were available for the home-market too so, for me, this mirror has become a daily essential.The compact case includes two standard mirrors: the first with normal mirror function while a second mirror in the lid provides 2x magnification. The standard mirror also benefits 3 levels of white LED illumination around its perimeter giving a bright, clear image of the face forFor me the huge selling point and benefit has to be the UV camera set within the standard mirror and I was a little apprehensive on my first use, a little fearful of what I might find and how effective my sunscreen applications were. Luckily the deep grey, and slightly scary, image of my face and hands showed I had effectively applied my UV protection well on most of my face, although I had completely missed the bridge of my nose, where my earlier cancer cells were, and beneath my eyes - which also means I have probably missed this area over the last year too so I am rectifying this immediately. A few days later following more careful application of my sunscreen the mirror showed a more thorough coverage which has brought me some peace of mind.This mirror is compact at 97x8mm and very easy to carry. Charging is via USB-C.I would very highly recommend this to anyone, particularly anyone concerned about or feels at risk of cancer on the face or other body areas. It works well, shows clearly where sun protection of SPF15 or higher is missing and encourages improves techniques for applying sunscreen.

When I saw this product available for review, it grabbed my interest immediately. Having an easy way of determining if you have applied enough sun screen is a brilliant idea, and this product delivers exactly that.The compact mirror comes very nicely packaged and contains the UV camera mirror itself, a USBA charging cable (with a USBC end that goes into the mirror), an instruction leaflet, UV test card and cleaning cloth. The mirror is the size of a large compact, but still small enough to carry around in a bag. Mine arrived with some charge already on it, but it’s very easy to charge up using the USB cable.The mirror has an ON/OFF button on the back. When you open it up, there is a standard mirror on the inside of the lid, and the camera mirror screen on the lower part. To operate it, press the button at the top of the camera screen and the ring light around it turns on. Repeated short touching of this button steps the brightness of the light up and down. Now for the magic:If you long touch the button, the UV camera mode is switched on, and the light at the bottom also turns on. In this mode, you are able to see your face in the rectangular screen. If you aren’t wearing any sun screen, you will see your face looking quite light, but if you have already applied SPF, your skin will appear darker in those areas.I was blown away when I first tried this! I use an SPF30 day cream, and top it up with SPF50 if I’m spending a lot of time outside in bright sun. Well, to my delight, my face appeared pretty much black meaning a very high degree of UV protection! Unfortunately, I can’t photograph it because all the camera sees is my phone. My eyelids were light as was the front of my neck, so it also highlighted where I needed to be more careful with my application, and allowed me to top missed areas effectively while looking in the mirror.As well as checking initial application, this is ideal for checking if your SPF has worn off during the day and needs topping up. I think I usually apply it too often to be on the safe side, so this mirror could save me money if I don’t need to apply sun screen so often.The other use of this camera (not such an important one to me) is that it will detect if you have removed your makeup thoroughly while cleansing – makeup provides a degree of physical block to UV light.Even though this UV mirror is quite pricey - currently £99.00 – I really think it’s a fantastic thing to have in the home. We all know how damaging exposure to UV is to the skin, but with this Fenchilin UV camera mirror, you can be sure to protect your skin adequately and efficiently.

Typically the price has vanished now but it was just over £80 when I took it for review and then we waited to actually get some sun, thank you bank holiday weekend.So we got to try him out and although compact the mirror size is still large enough with the 2x magnification for the UV camera to both be well seen and understood easily.With the sun firmly in place we were able to see how well protected we were and where and when to touch it up for maximum sun safety, a very useful little beach and day out sun monitor, we were very happy and a little surprised just how well it worked.
