Not specific enough
I really enjoyed the free How To DVD that came with my Canon 60D. They did a great job covering much of the huge amounts of features related to the still photography on the camera. The portion of the free DVD dedicated to video was a little lacking, and that was the main reason I bought the 60D. So when they mentioned that the same company made this DVD about shooting great video on the DSLR, I was all over it. I ordered it that night and the DVD came in quickly. What I did not pay attention to closely enough was that this was just a general Canon how to on video. They spoke in generalities most of the time. For a DSLR newbie like me, that was not enough. I was looking for many specific examples of how to set up my 60D to get great video in different situations / subjects. No such luck. They used phrases like "your camera probably has..." and "most dslr cameras can... " I needed a DVD that showed me exactly what button to push. I have seen better "how to" videos on the web. Not worth the money, I think.

Decent material, which it had more of the hands on, how to work the controls
This video really should be two, one with more info about the controls and buttons for shooting video, and another on the aesthetics of shooting video. Having watched it twice, I still can't get my camera to record video. Had to go on-line to a pay site to find out how to make the camera work.

Three Stars
Good technical on shooting video but not sure they covered anything that had to do with Nikon DSLRs.

basic introduction- well produced- generic in approach
Well, I am new to the DSLR video approach. Thus, I am looking for information to make this transition from photography to videography (?cinematography?)... I shoot w/ Nikon and thus my search for information yielded this DVD. A search on "Canon DSLR video" results in a similar DVD, by Blue Crane, but labeled "How to shoot great video with your "Canon" DSLR...". just saying. It's well produced. In a lot of ways exemplifying how to use your equipment to craft such tutorials. It does cover, well, introduce several important concepts that one will have to think about and make decisions about. However, its coverage is superficial. Not that that is bad, but if you are looking for depth of information with which to help you make decisions about gear, technique, editing software, etc. I doubt you will find it here. This DVD is not bad, just basic, generic information-- nothing specific to the Nikon camera line of DSLRs, as best as i remember. Well, maybe they addressed video compression specific to Nikon cameras, as it appears to be different from Canon, from what i have read.In summary, this is an example of a very well produced "basic introduction" to the subject, not a "tutorial." Also, it seems to be filmed exclusively with DSLR video, as best i can tell. Having viewed it, i am ready to "pass it on". Those seeking more in-depth information will have to get it elsewhere.I also found another overview/ intro guide - available on line (free) in a PDF format called "the DSLR Cinematography Guide (by "Koo") can be found at "nofilmschool(dot)com/dslr" (link is "spelled out" because Amazon strips web links from inside reviews). I would rate this one (the free PDF book) a more valuable overview/intro to the field.regards,Pablo
